RECYCLE BROKEN CRAYONS

By LagunaAlkaline

A heart crayon I made using cookie cutters.

Crayons are a major part of my household. Not only do I have a child living here, but my sister lives here with her kid, and my mom has a daycare. So, naturally we find lots of broken crayons laying about. I had this nice little thing called a Crayola Crayon Maker but it recently broke. I found a nice way to make crayons without having to spend the money to get one of those crayon makers.

Things You'll Need:

Broken Crayons (obviously)

Metal Cookie Cutters

Aluminum Foil (if using cookie cutters)

Silicone Candy Molds (alternate to cookie cutters)

Cookie Sheet

How to Make

Preheat your oven to 325 degrees.

1. Peel off the paper from the broken crayons.

2. Wrap aluminum foil around the bottom of the cookie cutter (if using cookie cutters, if not skip this step :])

3. Fill the bottom of your cookie cutter/silicon mold with the broken crayons (just to cover the bottom should be fine).

4.  Line the cookie cutters on a cookie sheet or put the mold on a cookie sheet.

5. Put it in the oven for 5 minutes (cooking times vary. 5 minutes is usually perfect for me. Sometimes though, I need to cook it for a while longer.)

6. Take out the cookie sheet and let it cool. (You can let it sit out, stick it in the freezer, or even outside if it's cold enough!)

7. Gently pop out the crayon from the mold. (I found sometimes I have to be a little rough, but be careful not to break them!)

8. ENJOY!

This is a great way to recycle the crayons to save money. I have made flower ones and heart ones (for valentines day!)

If you are doing this for lets say Valentine's Day, I taped the crayon to a handmade card that said "You color my world!"

This is a great craft to do with your kids too! Let your kids pick out the mold and the colors! They'll have fun watching the crayons melt :)

I don't even remember how I found this hub lol! But oh my, I am 52, and I LOVE anything artform! I am going to try this, I did a hub on some pictures I colored with a huge caddy I bought that had glitter & metallic crayons, they didn't show up in the photo as well as in real life, but I did a Peacock for a little girl and she actually couldn't sleep until she seen it ONE MORE TIME lol, it was so cute! Your hub makes me inspired to make more colors! Right when I thought it was impossible for new colors to exist lol! :) Thanks for the tips! :)
